We can learn from any situation of crisis. In many countries, it is being discussed when and how to reopen schools. We should not just reopen – this is a time to reinvent.

Learning Inspired by Bo Stjerne Thomsen: Learning Through Playful Experiences
Bo Stjerne Thomsen, PhD, is the Vice-President and Chair of Learning through Play in the LEGO Foundation. The function of the Chair is to be the expert at the highest level to the executive leadership on how children and adults learn through play. He spent 9 years as Head of Research, building the research agenda and organizational expertise on children’s development, play and learning, in order for the LEGO Foundation to be the leading authority on learning through play.

Learning Inspired by Mercedes Miguel: Transforming Learning Systems
Mercedes Miguel is former Secretary of Innovation and Quality in Education of Argentina’s Ministry of Education. As Secretary, one of her main focuses was Secundaria 2030, an initiative to implement skill and project-based learning in the country’s secondary schools, where drop-out rates were worryingly high. Mercedes Miguel was part of the UNESCO 2030 Committee and Chair of the educational group during the G20 in 2018. Besides, she has worked as General Director of Innovation in Education for Buenos Aires’ city council, and has a background as teacher, journalist and founder of initiatives such as “Enseña por Argentina” of the Global Network Teach for All.

Learning Inspired by Marina Umaschi Bers: Learning by Coding
Marina Umaschi Bers has co-developed the innovative and amazing ScratchJr programming language in collaboration with Mitch Resnick from the MIT Media Lab and Paula Bonta from the PICO company. ScratchJr lets children (ages 5-7) code their own interactive stories and games. She is Professor and Chair at the Eliot-Pearson Department of Child Study & Human Development and an adjunct professor in the Computer Science Department at Tufts University. Her research involves the design and study of innovative learning technologies to promote children’s positive development.

Learning Inspired by Trung Le: Learning with Nature
Trung Le is the co-founder of 180 Studio and WONDER, by Design. He led an international group of designers and educators to collaborate on a research project that resulted in the publication of The Third Teacher: 79 ways you can use design to transform teaching & learning. His work focuses on reimagining learning and learning institutions from a design perspective, and his projects have been internationally recognized and awarded. His latest collaborative design project, Seed + Spark, uses nature as a model to reimagine the future of school.

Learning Inspired by David Stephen: Changing Schools from the Inside Out
David Stephen is an educator and architect as well as co-founder of the ground-breaking High Tech High network of schools in California where students undertake projects that combine technical and academic education. He served as curriculum coordinator and design director. He later founded New Vista Design and has more than 30 years of experience leading school reformers in creating and developing schools across the United States.
