The Future of Learning at the Western Academy of Beijing
Learners need to be the center of their education. This is the commitment of FLoW21, the innovative educational work being done at the Western Academy of Beijing to maximize learning for every one of their 1,400 students.
We work together with the renowned IB school to reimagine, redesign, and rebuild learning spaces to support their key targets of FLoW21 and Theory of Knowlege. Starting with four prototype areas across the campus, we create an iconic learning journey for the students from kindergarten to high school.
The prototype design presents flexible, diverse and variable spaces that support FLoW21 targets such as team-teaching, flexible learning groups, individualized timetables, self-directed learning and mentorship.
In the design, we activate the wealth of Chinese culture in a modern framework for learning. Dragon paths, moon gates and Chinese courtyard structures shape the new imaginative learning environments for the international students, representing more than 50 nationalities.
The new prototypes are the first steps towards a redesign of the Western Academy of Beijing campus. The first prototypes will be constructed and open during 2019.
