Agora Madrid International School Prepares Students for the Unexpected
In collaboration with Rosan Bosch Studio, Agora is developing a new holistic learning environment to encourage self-direction, collaboration and autonomy of learners.
Students at Agora are encouraged to shape their own learning journey to become aware of how to shape a better future for themselves and others. The design is a visionary development of the school strategically formed to support the IB curriculum and prepare students for the uncertainty of the future.
The design for Agora breaks with traditions and supports the unique educational excellence of the school. The arts-based and holistic pedagogy encourage learners to express themselves creatively and become aware of their individual potential. The concept is carefully designed to stimulate learners’ innate curiosity and to offer differentiation and trust.
Agora bases its identity on five principles: Multilingualism, STEAM, International Baccalaureate (IB), Shaping the World and Sports & Health, that Rosan Bosch Studio Madrid has transformed to a design concept that comprises four specialized areas.
The Wellness studio motivates reflection on student well-being – physically and mentally. Movement and health are considered in the range of activities reminding students that mind and body are inextricably linked when learning to take care of themselves and others to use their full potential.
In the Performing Arts studio, creativity and expression will be reflected and supported by the learning environment. The stimulating spaces support music and body expression, and areas are dedicated to communication and sharing of ideas through art.
The Glocal studio considers diversity and society and offers spaces to interact and to form social relations. Located in the heart of the building, the numerous activities connect all subjects related to the development of a community. It stands out for being a dynamic space that encourages dialogue and debate. The goal is to motivate learners to become citizens that take part in a global community.
Art and science through STEAM competencies (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) is a pedagogical approach that advocates collaborative work. The design will support multidisciplinary and cross disciplinary work with dedicated areas, space for immersion and co-creation in a large community of learning opportunities.
The first steps towards the progressive educational vision will appear for the early year groups. The design will give form to safe and stimulating environments created to activate the senses and support the growth and development of each life-long learner.
