Empowering Learners
The design for International School of Nice is informed by ambitious pedagogical visions to motivate and empower the individual learner through holistic learning experiences. Translated into the concept of a 'Whole School', learners are encouraged to connect, collaborate and share spaces in a learning community. The IB curriculum will support creativity and the learner's ability to transfer knowledge and skills from one discipline to another and to real-life situations.
In a Whole School, all members of the school community feel responsible and play an active role in creating a trusting and empowering environment. Based on the Whole School approach, Rosan Bosch Studio has developed five spheres for activities, each of which represents a space typology that shapes the school’s differentiated learning landscape for individual needs. Each of the five spheres is linked to a specific space typology. These will be an integral part of the organization of the spatial planning and the school’s physical design as an active part of students’ holistic learning experiences. In the different spheres, students, teachers and staff members meet, interact and collaborate across the school throughout the day.
The spheres motivate learners to move from ideation to implementation - creating, receiving, transforming and retrieving knowledge from one context to another, and from different learning situations. All spheres are consistent throughout the school’s physical learning environment. From the young explorers to the graduating students, life-long learning and self-direction are integral parts of the learning journey.
The design supports individual needs and places the learner at the center of both the design and the learning situation - from the first encounter and throughout the entire learning landscape.
