Wall of Windows from The Brooking
2018, Søborg, Denmark
Charles Brooking's windows wall is a captivating look into British architecture history. With the new exhibition area of historical windows we create a connection to the permanent collection at VILLUM Window Collection.
The design of Wall of Windows utilize the oblong showroom as a chronological gallery. We have brought out the exhibition podiums, so they present Charles Brooking's knowledge of craftsmanship and built heritage.
The history of the window is connected to the presence of light. The exhibition design integrates the incidence of light from the sloping shed roof. Meanwhile, the displayed windows have alternating backlighting in cold daylight and warm artificial light.
Wall of Windows were first exhibited at Rem Koolhaas' main exhibition at Venice Architecture Biennale 2014, as part of an analytical approach to the elements of architecture. The aim speaks well together with VILLUM Window Collection’s ambition to be an archive – both for the history of windows and the human experience of light, air and view.
