Cultural Island
2016, Middelfart, Denmark
The Cultural Island brims with cultural experiences. Our design creates a platform for cultural knowledge, local proximity, and works as an extension of the cultural community in Middelfart, Denmark.
The new cultural destination brings together the city's library, tourist information, cinema, Citizen Service Center, restaurant, café, and conference facilities. With an oasis, a snail house, and a gaming zone, the connected venues serve as a meeting spot for citizens, employees, children, and young people.
The identity-shaping design opens up the existing library building, enabling the Cultural Island to utilize the synergy between the many institutions and generate new user dynamics. The library's book exhibitions can match the cinema's movie selection, allowing visitors to explore connected topics like vikings, saltwater fish, or political thrillers after an intriguing cinema experience.
As part of the design strategy, we have worked with workshops for the employees of the Culture Island to get them started on knowledge sharing to create productive areas of cooperation and cultivating a strong collective identity.
