Bornholm's Boarding School
2013, Rønne, Denmark
Learning is digital and project-based at Bornholm's Boarding School, a Danish independent school for teenagers. To provide space for digital innovation, creativity, and new forms of work our design offers learning facilities that supports the vision of 'the future digital school.'
With the interior of the White House, students get a cave of green screen to work with stop-motion movies and other video recordings – while the Sound Bubble is an optimized studio for sound work padded with light blue foam.
The house contains a red-carpeted cinema cave that is built into a larger Dialogue Space where students can work at an organic table and with matching workstations along the walls. From here, a red-painted inspiration tunnel leads into the Cabin with niches for immersion.
Since the school does not have a traditional classes and timetables, our design is based on multifunctional purposes for each room that blurs the boundaries between school and spare time activities. The one-year-long residency at the school gives students motivation to learn, discover and acquire new skills in a untraditional school setup.
