VELUX Collection
2018, Østbirk, Denmark
Daylight is at the heart of the VELUX Collection. With the design of the visitor center, we connect the historic collection of skylights with a bright showroom for new window technologies. The collection activates the Danish window manufacturer’s brand promise – Bringing Light to Life – by staging how light and fresh air forms indoor living.
At the top floor, the visitors are sent on a time-travel journey. Through a historical set design, they move from the dark attic toward the first VELUX windows in the 1940s. From here, the journey continues to 1968 with the centre-pivot windows and further on to elevated skylights and intelligent window solutions with automatic climate control.
On the ground floor, the VELUX universe presents itself through an exhibition of thematic isles. Podiums sloping like roof surfaces offer the manufacturer's history through digital media, historical objects, and tactile experiences. Here, visitors can try the rotatable pivot in a transparent plexiglass window, or compare the presence of skylight windows in European urban spaces. Along the walls, rows of historical skylights allow visitors to explore the development of VELUX products.
The visitor center leads to a grand showroom beaming with daylight from multiple skylights. A roof construction of oblique columns works as display frames for new product development, design solutions, and new climate technologies. The showroom sets the scene for engaging meetings and demonstrations supported by a grand mosaic of screens.
With the VELUX Collection, the window pioneers in Østbirk get a venue to present the qualities of daylight and communicate the company's core values.

The daylight experience already begins at the arrival to the visitor center's blue-paved footpaths. Sculptural pavilions frame the sky and sharpen the visitor's understanding of how natural light from above influences spaces. Underneath podiums presents the historical significance of the site.
As part of the exhibition design, we have established a new entry-building and constructed new connections between the former barn and stable, adding new identity with respect to the heritage.
