The jury of the Danish Design Award 2019 has shortlisted two of our design solutions for Glasir – Tórshavn College alongside our design manuals for the Ministry of Education in Argentina.

The interdisciplinary learning spaces at Glasir – Tórshavn College is featured in the category Visionary Concepts and also in Better Learning for the design of the Shell in the special needs education hub. Also represented in the Visionary Concepts category are our design manuals for ‘Learning Landscapes as a redesign strategy for secondary schools in Argentina’.

The prestigious Danish Design Award is a collaboration between Dansk Design Center and Design denmark and celebrates innovative design that makes a difference.

Learning Landscapes as a redesign strategy for secondary schools in Argentina

Statement from the jury:

"Visionary concept, not just for Argentina, but for the educational system in general. The project breaks down silos in the education system and rethinks learning layouts."

The series of design manuals give clear guidelines to a transformation of the six typical school layouts – from total rebuilds and tearing down walls to rearrangement of interior and no-budget interventions.

Shaping an interdisciplinary school culture at Glasir - Tórshavn College

Statement from the jury:

"Visionary concept, not just for the Faroe Islands, but for the educational system in general. An interesting visionary concept to foster interdisciplinarity and learning with furniture elements."

Playful installations, open craft workshops and an abundance of workstations for teams shape the infrastructure of the new interdisciplinary school.

The Shell and the special needs education Hub at Glasir – Tórshavn College

Statement from the jury:

"Great project. The Shell and the special needs education Hub at Glasir forms a very clever solution for a learning environment for students with learning difficulties."

With an embosoming structure and sound absorbing materiality, the Shell provides a protected and functional space tailored for individual learning needs. The soft, felted wool surfaces give a tactile experience as it offers the students a space for undisturbed retreat and concentration.
